I'm Betsey. I love non-profits. I love their complexity and beauty at every stage in a non-profit’s life, from shiny new start-up to the older and wiser organizations. I fully enjoy the challenges and opportunities that are faced as non-profits grow, communities and their needs change, or sometimes the world just changes everything for you.

I am an innovative, driven, and highly collaborative leader. When I was hired as the first Executive Director of The DOVE Project, my journey began with a board member handing me a bag and a flip phone in a parking lot. The expectation was simple: build something impactful from the ground up— and I did just that. Success came through leading, inspiring, and cultivating strong relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders. One of my proudest achievements is not just the growth of DOVE but the lasting culture we created. More than a decade later, the staff I hired and trained continue to Thrive, a testament to the strong foundation of collaboration we built together.

 

I am the founder of Copper Consulting and serve as Senior Consultant of RHL Consulting. Over the past year, I have worked with over 60 community-based organizations on capacity building for organizational development and fundraising. My expertise includes leadership coaching, strategic planning, board/staff retreats, program development, data systems, coalition building, communications, and conflict resolution.​​

​

On a more formal note, I have a Master’s degree in International Educational Development and a Doctorate in Gender and Political Anthropology. I am a former non-profit Executive Director and I have raised significant amounts of money (approximately 4.5 million USD total) both nationally and internationally. I love working for mission driven organizations and have worked internationally in humanitarian response in India, Nepal, and Chad.
